Books I finished reading in the past two days
*WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD*
Hello, again. Apparently, my mother decided to pity me and leave my precious electronic best friend behind. Now this isn't going to be a rant. Instead, this is me sharing my thoughts about two books I finished reading...(see title). I decided to just write both reviews in one post because they share a common denominator: the author.
Now... two days ago, I forced my parents to honor their promise of buying me Fall Out Boy's recent album, Save Rock and Roll, and the John Green books set. Upon arriving home, I took pictures of said merchandise (am I using this word correctly?) like a regular teen and posted it online to brag. But not really. I then proceeded to read the book next to The Fault In Our Stars (which I already read), which was Paper Towns.
The book is about Quentin Jacobsen who has a long-time crush on resident spunky, adventure-loving girl Margo Roth Spiegelman. A night of exciting ninja-like activities with MRS became the last night that Q ever saw her, and finding out that MRS leaves a breadcrumb trail for her parents, he resolved to find her. After tons of wrong turns, speculations, and interpretations of a poem, Q, along with his friends Radar and Ben, and Ben's girlfriend Lacey, they find MRS in a paper town. SO THAT'S IT FOR SPOILERS I GUESS. That was a lot of spoilers so forgive me. I did warn you.
It was a very thrilling book. I realize that all of the John Green books I've read so far remind me of present life and how experiences actually happen. The events in the book are written exactly how they would have happened IRL, thereby making the book sound realistic and can make the reader feel like they understand the characters.
I must admit, I don't like MRS very much. Considering how she reacted upon seeing Q, R, B, and L, I doubt she realizes how her presence affects people. She even forgot about her little sister. Now I'd like to think I'm not a judgmental person, but judging from my peers' comments, I am, so I know that not everyone thinks and acts the way you want them to. MRS has almost everything I want: courage, popularity, beauty, superficial stuff. But Q said and I quote, "So is everyone," regarding superficiality. Anyway back to the point. Q is admirable, actually. He sets about looking for a girl who didn't really take notice of him until the night she disappears, follows the trail she leaves for him, and actually manages to find her without her meaning to, and still like her after her bitch act. So, admirable.
My only issue is MRS, really. I'd like to change her personality, but then I'd be changing the whole story. So I give this book 4/5 stars.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After I finished Paper Towns at about 3 am, I slept. The next day, I held off reading until about noon or maybe evening(?) I'm not really sure.
(By the way, the pictures I'm using are the covers of the books that I own. I am quite aware that JG's books have different covers...etc.)
So I finished this book today between waiting for Castle to load and eating God's Gift to Man AKA Premium Biscuits by Hansel. The story is about this dude, Colin Singleton, who has dated 19 girls named Katherine. Not Katrina, Kat, Kathy, or most definitely not Catherine. K-A-T-H-E-R-I-N-E. So then K-19 dumps him, and he wallows in self-pity (or that's how I see it). His Judge Judy-loving best friend then proposes that they go and have a road trip so they do. Then he has the idea to make a Theorem predicting how long a relationship can last.
I admit that I liked this book far better than Paper Towns, largely due to the fact that I liked the girl protagonist. It gives me good vibes, I guess. There's no other way to say it. Not because he actually finishes his Theorem, but because he experienced getting dumped the same way I feel whenever I see people I fancy interact with other girls. Or not. I can just relate. Everything he sees and feels and hears all goes back to K-19.
I'm giving this the same rating as Paper Towns which is 4/5 because I felt like it could have been expanded more. And also because I see a pattern forming that I no longer had to guess what was going to happen to the bestie.
SO that's all with me and my thoughts for the books I finished. Hopefully I can successfully hold off reading Looking For Alaska. It's on the bed atm so I can avoid it.
Love, Liebe
